Note: Numerous model differences of detail, such as their parameterization of clouds, may lead to one model providing better forecasts of certain soaring parameters for your location, but that can only be determined through actual flight experience.

Note: Certain internet security software filters (Norton's, ZoneLabs, etc.) may inhibit display of the Dr. Jack's soaring forecast charts below. If you have trouble, we suggest you temporarily disable those security filters to display the charts.

1. Thermal Index Report by Dr. John Glendening - AMAZING! This one is a must for serious students of both soaring and meteorology. See also RAOB Program, below.

2. Satellite Image Bank from Intellicast. Includes IR, visible and water vapor images - and cloud movement automation. See table below.

3. NOAA / NWS - A comprehensive, up-to-date, graphical web site showing many aspects of atmospheric and terrestrial weather.

4. Binghamton Regional web site of the National Weather Service. Excellent links!

5. METAR's Understood - An excellent short text with many examples on decoding METAR's. Easy to use hypertext format.

6. TAF/METAR - Right from the horse's mouth. National Weather Service's Federal Meteorological Handbook #1; pertinent sections on TAF/METAR from this twelve chapter, on-line book.
