By simply opening
this page, you have taken the exciting first step in a memorable
journey. Whether your soaring journey is just today's visit to
this website, or leads to your first demonstration glider flight,
or even to flight instruction and your first solo glider flight,
we thank you for visiting us today!
Harris Hill Soaring Center is operated
by the Harris Hill Soaring Corporation, a non-profit organization
whose purpose is the appreciation, learning, and pursuit of safe,
motorless flight for both HHSC members and the public. In
season, we do offer demonstration glider rides to the public.
See Visitor Services for
information about demonstration glider rides and flying information
for visiting soaring pilots.
For members, HHSC offers training,
aircraft, towing services and that
unique HHSC camaraderie. Our 100-plus members range from
national and world soaring competitors to weekend local soaring
buffs, from experienced professional pilots to our talented teenage
members. Our Juniors organization comprises 20-25 young pilots
of ages 14 through 23.
Age itself is no deterrent to soaring;
we have capable pilots who are 14 -- and active pilots well into
their 70's. The skills of soaring, remarkably, are within the
reach of almost anyone who puts in the effort to learn.
For club members, Harris Hill Soaring
flies year-round and hosts soaring activities
such as Regional and
National Soaring Championships, fly-in's,
winter wave soaring camps, and vintage aircraft soaring events.
On occasion radio-controlled glider and other model aircraft,
kite-flying and Homebuilders' Soaring Association events use
the Harris Hill site. And, of course, we love to
give demonstration glider rides to
the public!
The Center commands the heights
of historic Harris Hill, birthplace of American soaring. Adjacent
to our gliderport is the National Soaring Museum, and a wonderfully
wooded park and recreation area. See Regional
Tourism for a host of other attractions in the Upstate and
Finger Lakes regions.
